Weekly Check In – 2/17/2021

Eighty three weeks out from surgery, and here are the numbers I care about:

  • Weight: 236
  • Blood Sugar: 94

Up two and a half pounds, and the ongoing tug of war continues. Last week I said I was gonna stop including the blood sugar numbers, but I was so happy with that one that I decided to keep it up one more week and go out on a high note.

Last Sunday I found out another friend has died, presumably from Covid. No one has any details really, but the few things I do know make Covid the most likely cause of death. That puts the number of people I’ve known to have died from it at 6. All of them should still be here and none of them are and it’s incredibly difficult not to wonder if they’d still be alive if the previous president hadn’t turned taking care of your health into a political issue. He’s indirectly responsible for thousands of deaths, and six of them were my friends.

Three things I’m grateful for:

  • My health. Every time I hear of another death, I’m increasingly grateful for my own health.
  • The vaccine. My wife is getting her first shot today. This is a HUGE relief.
  • My friends. I had a two and a half hour phone call with one of my favorite people the other night and there’s just no overstating how much better my life is for having her in it. It’s because of her that I started incorporating these gratitude lists into the weekly updates.

I’m good this week. There’s a lot of anxiety still, but there’s therapy for that kind of thing. I’m good. There’s never enough time in the day, but I’m dealing.
