Weekly Check In – 1/6/2021

Seventy seven weeks out from surgery, and here are the numbers I care about:

  • Weight: 237
  • Blood Sugar: 102

Down two and a half pounds which, yay, but also who cares? Yesterday, and this has nothing to do with my health, there was open insurrection in our nation’s capitol incited by our president and more than a hundred other extremist lawmakers who either don’t understand the dangers of the political theater they’ve been acting out, or who don’t care. All of them should be removed from office and thrown in jail for not only failing to uphold and defend the constitution, but for actively working to subvert it. Even after all the white supremacists were done with their shenanigans (shenanigans that left 14 police officers injured and four other people dead), some of those same jackasses still refused to back down or, as Dr. Heather Cox Richardson phrased it in this morning’s newsletter:

Six senators and more than half of the House Republicans backed an attempt to overthrow our government, in favor of a man caught on tape just four days ago trying to strong-arm a state election official into falsifying the election results.

I’m writing this today, Thursday, January 7th, because I woke up yesterday at 1:30am and never got back to sleep. By the time I wanted to get back to sleep, I had to stay awake to make it to a dentist appointment (where they successfully extracted the location of the hidden Nazi diamonds from me). Then I went home and sat in bed awake for two hours with a pounding skull, and then went to the office for a video session with my head shrinker. As that was happening, she told me about the insurrection (this is not even remotely inappropriate for a therapy session with me, I’ve spent the last four years working through politics-induced rage and anxiety with her), and then I watched the CBS livestream on YouTube for a bit. When I was done with all that, I said to myself, “Fuck I never weighed in this morning.”

Three things I’m grateful for:

  • President Biden. I know it’s two weeks early, but I’m just gonna start calling him president now because yesterday he gave a short speech to the press yesterday and it’s the first time I’ve seen a president exhibiting leadership since the morning of January 20th, 2017.
  • Stacey Abrams. Thank God for Stacey Abrams. We don’t deserve her, but man oh man, do we need her.
  • The white trash insurrectionists (especially the idiot who tased themself to death). Seriously, I’m grateful to them all, because now I can just point to them the next time one of my few remaining Republican friends tries to tell me I’m making too big a deal out of the words of an elected leader who’s also a white supremacist. And then I can tell that friend to fuck off with their racist excusing bullshit.

I’ve been drinking more water this week Just kidding, I’ll get back to the boring minutiae of my health and diet next week. This week I’m angry. And weirdly hopeful.

Here, have a graphic:
