Gratitude Journal

Three things:

  • Snoring dogs. Annette’s been going in to work since school started up a couple months ago, which leaves me here at the house with the dogs. There’s something insanely comforting about a beagle who snores louder than bears. It’s become what the world sounds like when everything immediately around me is okay.
  • Heating. I turned the A/C off a few days ago. This morning it was 65 degrees inside the house, so I just turned the heat on for the first time in over six months, and the smell of the dust layer burning off as my limbs slowly thaw is the best thing in the world.
  • The future. I don’t believe in mythological golden ages, so I don’t believe there’s one just around the corner, but I do know things will change, and I do believe, perhaps irrationally, that the majority of those changes will be for the better. Right now scares the shit out of me, but things will improve.
